About This Journal

As of right now, I mostly use my livejournal account to post links to my fanfiction for CSI, random musings on the X-Files, and various other non-personal writings. I may, at some time in the future, actually start adding other things. (ETA: okay, it's the future. I do have some friend-locked entries at this point. If I "know" you, feel free to comment here if you'd like to be added as a friend. Fanfic and other non-personal posts will remain public.)

If you're interested in reading my fanfiction, it is archived at [info]geekfiction under my tag or at Fanfiction.net. If you're interested in acquiring my services as a CSI beta reader, please click on the image below.

LFAS Finals - Please Vote!

So the final challenge stories at [info]lastficstanding are now posted. Please take some time between now and Thursday evening to head over HERE to read the stories and vote. There are only three writers left, so the more outside voters, the better for us.

The challenge this week was three-fold: to include the color blue prominently in the fic (either as a theme or a metaphor), to include a song lyric, and to use no more than ten adverbs ending in -ly.

This week there are two CSI stories and an original story, so go, read, enjoy, and don't forget to vote! All comments and votes are kept entirely anonymous, so there's nothing to worry about when you're submitting concrit or choosing your favorite story.

Thanks in advance,
PLK

Book List

Stolen from [info]enterincolor, just because it looked like fun...

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ.

Book List )

Interesting, but you can probably tell that I was a biology major, not an English major... ;-D

Commonly Confused Words Test

Stolen from [info]losingntrnslatn just for fun... Though I don't have her cool icon to go with it.

Hmmmm.... Now I must go visit the answer key to figure out which ones I missed because I'm obsessive like that... :-)

If only I could actually catch these words when I'm writing and not thinking about it the same way you do in a test... oh well. I guess that's what betas are for... :-D

LFAS Semifinals

Okay, a bit more community pimpage.

It's the semi-finals this week over at Last Fanfiction Author Standing, [info]lastficstanding, and I'm putting out a call for people to come read, leave concrit, and vote on your favorite story. This week's challenge was "Original Fiction" so you don't have to worry about being unfamiliar with any of the fandoms.

Anyone can vote, and the more input we get as authors, the better. So come join in the fun! You can find this week's stories and the voting form HERE. Voting closes Thursday night at 11:59 pm EDT, so drop in before then if you can.

Thanks!

CSI Fanfic Collaboration and Community Pimpage

*Copied from the wonderfully brilliant [info]mingsmommy with additions from [info]losingntrnslatn because I haven't pimped this story yet, and it's a good idea.

The [info]1hour2write In Honor of Edmond story is up here. All the writers did a great job (almost 31,000 words total). Basically it's a lab-wide scavenger hunt staged by Grissom in honor of Edmond Locard (the father of forensics) and involves the entire cast and crew. Are the CSIs as good at scavenging as they are at finding evidence? You'll have to read it to find out.

Conceived by [info]cincoflex and executed with style by [info]cincoflex, [info]snowydragon1776, [info]aussirayne, [info]smacky30, [info]losingntrnslatn, [info]blue_sky_home, [info]tos_lover, [info]jenbachand, [info]belismakr, [info]plkphoto, [info]cropper1818, and edited into a single flowing story by the wonderful [info]mingsmommy, it’s a 12 part CSI fic with Cinco doing the intro and finale and the other ten authors offering a different character’s perspective. Members worked on their chapters during the chat sessions at [info]1hour2write chats.

If you’re a writer, I recommend the [info]1hour2write chats. They’re always fun and a great opportunity to check in with other writers, get advice and hash out problems. We chat for a bit, go off to write for an hour, then come back and check in to see how it went for everyone.

If you search for the time to write it's a great exercise in dedicating a relatively small chunk of time to writing.

The Word Meme

Copy and paste to your own journal, erase my answers, and add your own. Use the first letter of your name to answer each of the following questions. They have to be real places, names or objects - nothing made up! Try to use different answers if the person you got this from has the same first initial. You CAN'T use your name for the boy/girl name question. And Have Fun With It!!!

1. 4 LETTER WORD: Poop (or Plot given my current mind-set)
2. BOY NAME: Paul
3. GIRL NAME: Paula :-) (or Pollyanna if that's too much of a cop out)
4. OCCUPATION: Pilot
5. A COLOR: Purple (boring, I know, but seriously, can you think of a different P color? Besides Puce, which does not need to be associated with my name.)
6. SOMETHING YOU WEAR: Parka
7. BEVERAGE: Pepsi
8. FOOD: Pavlova
9. SOMETHING FOUND IN A BATHROOM: Plaque-fighting tooth Paste
10. A PLACE: Paris
11. REASON FOR BEING LATE: Procrastination
12. SOMETHING YOU SHOUT: Phooey!

Perfect Imagination Beta Reader Archive - Now Has CSI

Perfect Imagination, a long standing source of tested and accredited beta readers for the Harry Potter fandom, has recently expanded its resources to include a greater diversity of fandoms, including CSI. If you're looking for a beta reader or are interested in becoming a certified reader, I suggest you check out this site.

It is and has been a fantastic resource for writers in the Harry Potter fandom who want to improve their writing. Now, hopefully, it will also become a great resource for writers in other fandoms. The best part is that all applying beta readers must pass a test to show that they can catch the majority of grammar and spelling errors in a well-written piece before they are allowed to become official betas for the site.

Click on the link above to visit the site's homepage or on the image below to visit my beta profile.

A couple new CSI fics

Since I last posted, I've added a couple of CSI fics over at [info]geekfiction:

The Student

Rating: General
Word Count: 400 in a Double Drouble (100 per paragraph)
Spoilers: 7x03 Toe Tags, 8x02 A La Cart
Pairings: Grissom/Sara
Summary: First impressions.

A/N: Written in response to the prompt 'Student' at, and cross-posted from, [info]gsrdrabbles. This popped into my head and wouldn't leave, though it is actually a pair of companion double drabbles rather than a single drabble. Thanks go to [info]smacky30 for the beta!

Of Spiders and Soulmates

Rating: General
Pairing: Grissom/Maddie... JK! Griss/Sara, of course!
Genre: Humor with a dash of Angst
Word Count: 1500 or so
Spoilers: 8x12 Grissom's Divine Comedy
Summary: Er... the phone call, what else?

A/N: I didn't get a chance to watch GDC until recently, so I had to run a bit to catch the bandwagon, but managed to jump on anyway. Many thanks to [info]chibs87 and [info]smacky30 for the awesome betas!

Hope you enjoy them!

Writing to a Prompt

Well, over at [info]geekfiction they had a workshop comment post on how people write to a prompt. Of course, I couldn't be satisfied writing a short little comment-length summary, and instead wrote an essay that may be longer than my ficathon fics... So, I decided to post it here:

X-Files -- Untangling the Myth #20

Well a long, long time ago in a land far, far away, I used to be a rabid X-Phile, then real life happened and many years went by. Now there's a new movie coming out, and I'm coming out of hibernation.

Shortly after the Finale aired (way back in May of 2002), I posted a thorough review/analysis of the X-Files Myth Arc on the Official X-Files Forum site (under the name of PLOK2002). It was long and so will be contained in 20 separate entries, but I will provide links in each to previous and past chapters.

Hope you enjoyed! Please feel free to comment, review, or nitpick!
PLK (aka PLOK2002)

P.S. Please help me keep this post spoiler free! No movie discussions or icons. I'm looking to rehash the series, so this is a good time to resurrect those old classics. Thank you for your support!
